Barley Production

The first main prerequisite for good malt is having farmers with excellent seeds, technology, and know-how, as well as favorable weather conditions. Our farmers regularly meet at events organized by Lycos, such as the National Field Days and Malting Field Days, where they receive advice from experts. All results from these meetings are regularly evaluated.

We value our collaboration with breeders, seed companies, and companies dealing with chemicals and fertilizers, and we recognize its importance.
We focus on barley crops grown within a 100-kilometer radius; in addition, we import barley mainly from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Austria, preferring fertile areas with black soil. Among the spring varieties we process are Overture, Kangoo, Sunshine, Irina, and Sebastian, while the winter varieties include Wintmalt and Casanova.

Barley Testing

 Lycos aims for a continuous research program to identify the best varieties suitable for storage and those with high processability in breweries. Most of our barley is analyzed for varietal purity, and during production, its impact on critical parameters, particularly AAL (alpha-amylase levels), is assessed.
